2024 Summer Festival Guest Singer Program


Visit San Francisco for one week in August and join together with Maestro Bob Geary,

the San Francisco Choral Society Resident Chorus, 

the California Chamber Symphony and soloists in a thrilling concert on

Saturday, August 10 at Davies Symphony Hall.


Summer Festival Guest Chorus singers will travel to San Francisco for a week filled with rehearsals and a concert, ample time to make new friends, take in the many popular sights of the city and enjoy the beautiful, mild summer weather that Northern California typically offers.

Guest Chorus Singers:

Join the SF Choral Resident Chorus for a final week of rehearsals and concert performance in SF.


Rehearse both virtually and independently, with access to practice files and small group online sessions,

to be scheduled with SF Choral artistic staff. (details will be sent out in May) 


Singers should plan to travel to San Francisco by no later than Tuesday, August 6 and stay through Saturday, August 10. 


Singers may choose to find their own accommodations, or stay 5 nights in dormitory suite rooms at the Bowes Center of Performing Arts at San Francisco Conservatory of Music, located in the heart of the Hayes Valley and right across the street from Davies Symphony Hall. The Bowes Center offers a convenient onsite cafe and many nearby restaurants and eateries are within walking distance.


Concert Week Schedule (subject to change):

Tuesday: Arrivals, Hotel/Bowes Dormitory Check-in 12pm – 3p;

     Welcome Reception at 6pm,

     Rehearsal 7pm – 10pm at Kanbar Center for Performing Arts

Wednesday: Guest Singer Rehearsal, 10am – 1pm; Tutti Rehearsal 7pm – 10pm at Kanbar Center for Performing Arts

Thursday: Dress rehearsal with orchestra and soloists 6 – 10pm at Davies Symphony Hall

Friday: Dress rehearsal with orchestra and soloists 6 - 10pm at Davies Symphony Hall

Saturday: Concert at 8pm at Davies Symphony Hall | Call Time at 6pm

Sunday: Hotel/Bowes Dormitory Check-out (by 12pm), Departures


Participate in vocal workshops and a lecture throughout the summer between May 21 and August 10. Guest chorus singers also have access to the SF Choral Chorus Connection membership portal which includes practice files, calendar, an opt-in membership directory and chorus bulletin board. 


Eligibility

SF Choral Society welcomes all amateur singers to audition for participation in the Summer Festival Chorus!



Auditions will be held on Zoom with Maestro Robert Geary who will assess vocal technique and musicianship/reading skills. The process includes a warm-up, followed by vocalization to evaluate range, intonation and vocal production. The audition includes sight-reading a four-measure musical passage. Registration and dorm fees are listed below. 


Fees

Guest Choral Singer registration fee + residential dorm fee (suite style for 5 nights)*: $1250 USD

Guest Choral Singer registration fee, with no housing: $750 USD

Accommodations at Bowes Center are for participants over 18 yrs. There is 24 hour security staff onsite. Laundry room is available to residents. Linens and towels are not provided. 


We will work to accommodate roommate requests to the best of our ability. Both singers must be registered at the time the request is made. Please contact us for more details at inquire@sfchoral.org


Refund policy: All fees are non-refundable after May 15, 2024. Purchasing travel insurance is highly recommended.
