Julia Young, President
Julia is a Vice President, Assistant General Counsel with the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco, one of 12 regional banks that serve the U.S. as part of the Federal Home Loan Bank System. Her practice there centers on labor and employment issues, affordable housing, and contracts. She began singing in middle school and high school, primarily in church choirs, and also studied piano from an early age. Julia joined SF Choral in 2010, the board in 2012, and became President of the Board in January, 2014.
Cindi King, Vice President
Cindi King is an attorney who has worked with start-up companies and non-profit organizations for twenty years. She has served on numerous non-profit boards, including those of arts organizations and social service groups. Cindi has been singing in groups and choruses since childhood and sang in the San Francisco Bach Society and College of Marin chorus before joining the San Francisco Choral Society in 2005. Cindi joined the SF Choral board in 2015.
Leslie Lingaas Woodward, Secretary
A Bay Area native, Leslie has worked for many years as a freelance writer, specializing in health care. She has a long-standing interest in reading instruction, tutors young readers and writers to help build their skills. Leslie sang in her grade school glee club and reconnected with the joy of choral singing in midlife. She studied voice at SF Community Music Center and joined SF Choral in 2003. She served on the board of the Northern California Branch of The International Dyslexia Association and joined our board in 2016.
Devi Brown, Treasurer
Devi Brown has had her own bookkeeping service for over 35 years, specializing in QuickBooks setup and training and offering full-charge bookkeeping services. She holds a degree in Music Theory and Composition from Boston University School of Fine Arts and has been singing with SF Choral since 2009. She is currently serving on the boards of Choral Singers of Marin and the Canal Welcome Center. She is an avid knitter and quilter and she always says, “Let a Libra balance your books!”
Alice Aronow retired from the San Francisco VA Medical Center in 2013 after a long social work career, which ranged from direct service to Veterans to supervisory roles in the homeless program. She has enjoyed choral singing since childhood, first in church choir, then school and college choirs, a small a cappella group, and the Winifred Baker Civic Chorale. Since retiring, she studies music and other subjects at the Fromm Institute of the University of San Francisco. She joined SF Choral in 2003, and joined our board in 2017.
Peggy studied piano as a child, voice as a young adult, and has been singing in everything from quartets and chamber groups to large school and community choirs since high school. She has performed at the ACDA Western Division and National Conferences with her church choir, and spent many years singing with Oakland’s Cantare Con Vivo both stateside and abroad. In her work-a-day life, she is a paralegal in estate planning and probate law in her home town of San Rafael. Peggy joined SF Choral in 2012, and the Board in 2017.
After many years as a programmer, analyst, and senior sales executive with a major software company, Paul now devotes more time to music. His background in singing reaches back to grade school, and he has been the lead guitar in his church choir for more than 35 years. Paul sang with the Winifred Baker Civic Chorale in the 1980s, and joined SF Choral in 2003. He joined the board in 2006 and supports the board’s on-line database and office system, as well as the Silent Auction Committee.
